Maine Lumberjacks 47
20 About this jolly barber,
He's of a medium size, His face is very narrow, A squint in both his eyes.
21 His face is very narrow,
In his nose there is a crook; The Devil ain't a match for him For charging on a book.
22 These verses are not many,
But I think they're very true. He never was in a concern, But he always shaved the crew.
23 He cut your hair and shaved you
Without either shears or comb; The Devil ain't a match at all For squint-eyed Johnny Holmes.
24 If he shaves John Roland's crew,
The truth to you I '11 tell, He '11 waken up some morning And find himself in hell,
25 With the Devil dancing round him saying,
"Johnny, I've got you here; So you must go far down below And suffer most severe."
26 These verses are not many,
But I think they are complete; When we get down to the city, boys, On it we'll have a treat. |
